A successful training programme for parents and professionals which helped to raise awareness is one of the ways Bradford Council is leading the way in supporting disabled youngsters across the district.

The achievements of the Early Support programme are being marked at a special conference being held tomorrow.

Early Support aims to improve disabled children and their families’ experience of services provided and to improve their results.

An event, organised by the Council, takes place at the Ramada Jarvis Bankfield Hotel from 9am to 1.15pm. Representatives taking part include parents and carers, and people from a variety of agencies involved, including health, education, social care and the voluntary sector.

Councillor Michael Kelly said: “This is an excellent chance for us all to work together and to use the Early Support framework to transform and improve services for young disabled children and their families.”

Kath Tunstall, the Council’s strategic director for services to children and young people, said: “This event will give us the opportunity to raise the profile of Early Support while celebrating and promoting the involvement of parents and carers.”

There will be workshops on various themes, such as joint planning of services and workforce development. The event will close with the screening of a new DVD, produced by Education Bradford, which highlights the work being done in Bradford with parents, carers and professionals.
