A banned motorist who drove at 100mph in a 30mph zone has been jailed for 12 months.

Asif Khan, 29, the father of a four-year-old child, carried out a number of dangerous manoeuvres, a judge at Bradford Crown Court said.

Recorder Bryan Cox QC said there had to be a sentence of imprisonment to mark the seriousness of Khan’s driving and to deter him and others from such driving.

Khan, of Flockton Crescent, East Bowling, Bradford, had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

Prosecutor Dave MacKay told the court today that Khan had been disqualified from driving for three years in October 2006 but in March this year he was seen driving dangerously in a hired Audi A4 for four miles from the A650 at Tong Street.

Over several minutes, he cut across a car at a roundabout, forced a van to stop to avoid a collision, veered on to the wrong side of the road and travelled so fast over a dismantled railway line the car left the ground and swayed from side to side.

Mr MacKay said Khan drove at 100mph in a 30mph limit, losing control at a mini roundabout, sliding into a parked car and forcing a pedestrian to jump out of the way.

Khan was arrested after he lost control and the car hit a wall in New Cross Street.

Recorder Cox disqualified him from driving for a further three years.
