The literary works of Katie Price, Barack Obama and Dawn French are the most readily-discarded reads in UK hotel rooms in 2009, claims budget hotel chain Travelodge.

Topping its annual ‘Books most often left behind’ index was glamour model Price’s third autobiography, Pushed To The Limit.

In second place was Dreams From My Father, by US President Obama, while comedian French’s best-selling memoir Dear Fatty was third.

Other books in the top ten include JK Rowling’s The Tales Of Beadle The Bard and Candace Bushnell’s Sex And The City.

“More than 7,200 books were left behind in our hotels in the last year,” says Travelodge’s Greg Dawson. “As well as famous titles, an influx of Mills and Boon titles flooded our index, as have English-language phrase books from many European visitors this year.”

Nottingham Central Travelodge had a suitcase of Mills & Boon books left behind by a high-flying businessman, while hotels in Manchester and Oldham had the most copies of the Karma Sutra left behind.

Travelodge hotels in Liverpool had 12 copies of How To Learn Scouse left behind, while eight copies of Speak Geordie were found in one day at Newcastle Central.

Books left behind in Travelodge hotels are returned to customers or sent to charity shops.
