A woman has told a murder trial jury she heard screams of agony the night a man was stabbed to death and another seriously wounded in Bradford.

The witness, who gave her evidence anonymously, said she saw a group on East Squire Lane, Manningham, after midnight, intimidating people inside a house.

She said she heard breaking glass and shouts of “we know you’re in there – come out”.

She walked away but returned because the noise had escalated. She told the jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday the crowd had dispersed.

Three men she had not seen earlier were standing side by side in the street and all appeared to be holding some kind of weapon.

“They appeared to be readying themselves for something,” she said.

The witness said a small black car drove towards the men. The occupants were noisy and the front seat passenger was masked so only his eyes were visible.

She said he pointed a handgun out of the car window towards the men in the street and she heard up to six shots.

“As soon as I saw the gun it frightened me and I started to move away,” she said.

She said she heard screaming and the three men in the street urging one another forward. The car screeched and she heard it hit something.

She said she heard screaming as if people were in agony and pain.

Shoaib Khan, 31, from Sheffield, died in hospital shortly after he was stabbed in May last year. The driver, Zahoor Hussain, 27, said to have reversed into a wall as he tried to drive away, suffered serious wounds.

Brothers Nazeer Khan, 23, and Shafiq Khan, 20, of Highfield Place, Manningham, and their brother-in-law, Maskeen Khan, 26, of Hollings Road, Manningham, deny murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The two brothers, and Joshua Groves-Hunter, 22, of Hare Park, Liversedge, plead not guilty to affray and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on May 17 last year and violent disorder on May 26.

The trial continues.
