Oh, baby, has Bradford’s Pictureville cinema got a treat coming up for tiny tots and their carers.

Friday sees the first of the cinema’s Watch With baby movies – a new idea that means parents and carers of children under 12 months can now see the latest cinema releases without having to book a babysitter or worrying about their little ones disturbing other viewers.

It is the first time the cinema has tried such a programme. The first movie to be screened will be Oscar-nominated Revolutionary Road.

Other films lined up for the Watch With baby programme on the following two Fridays are documentary Anvil! and Palme d’or winner The Class.

Pictureville’s Sophie Choudry said: “We’ll be turning the volume down a little bit and the light slightly up for the comfort of both grown-ups and babies. We’re hoping to see lots of people turn up – and babies are welcome free. ”

Film-goers are invited to meet in the Pictureville bar first at 10.30am for complimentary drinks and biscuits before the film starts at 11am.

Projectionist team manager Duncan McGregor thinks the idea is a fantastic way of bringing up a new generation of film buffs.

“It’s great,” he said. “This really is a case of getting them hooked while they are young.

“Hopefully we’ll be rearing another new generation of people who will grow up to love film. It’s good for them and good for the cinema.”

Dad Lee McGinty, who was visiting the nearby national Media Museum from Sheffield, said Watch With baby was something other cinemas should try.

“We’ve got nothing like that happening in Sheffield,” he said. “It’s a really inclusive thing. I just wish it was happening on my doorstep. I would definitely go along.”
