Thousands of TV viewers across the country are being supplied with replacement HD set-top boxes after Saltaire-based producer Pace discovered a technical flaw.

About 90,000 Sky+ HD boxes will be replaced, whether or not they are faulty.

The move follows Pace identifying a problem in its assembly process which could have affected some of the first batch of boxes supplied to the digital broadcaster.

Pace alerted Sky to the problem and has since rectified the flaw. Later set-top box are unaffected.

The replacement programme covers versions 9F3001, 9F3002, 9F3003 and 9F3004 of the boxes.

Pace says the flaw was likely to have affected only a small number of boxes and viewers would not have noticed a problem.

As a precaution, Sky was providing a replacement box to all customers with the relevant models..

A Pace spokesman said the flaw involved internal cabling and the quality of the connections between components and did not involve any risk to safety..

The broadcaster said the boxes could continue to be used normally until replaced by an engineer. Customers are being contacted and the replacement is expected to take about three months to complete.
