A couple plotted a revenge knife attack on a man the wife thought was cheating on her sister, a court heard today.

Paul and Michelle Hampson, who married in March last year but are now estranged, sat together in the dock at Bradford Crown Court.

Both pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to wounding Darren Gore with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that Mr Gore suffered three stab wounds, two to his buttock and one behind his left knee.

Michelle Hampson, 29, was jailed for two years and nine months and her husband, 28, for three and a half years.

Michelle Hampson also admitted affray at a house where her husband had taken his girlfriend for the night.

Prosecutor Gavin Howie said in that incident she had banged on the door at the property in Firethorn Close, Girlington, on July 6 last year.

She had shouted threats to her husband and Shelly Armitage, the woman he was having an affair with.

Police were called and Michelle Hampson was arrested and bailed.

On August 13, she planned the knife attack on Mr Gore with her husband and “Duncan from Blackpool” who had never been caught, Mr Howie said.

Michelle Hampson believed Mr Gore was cheating on her sister, the court heard. Duncan produced a kitchen knife when all three were in drink, the court heard.

The trio went to Mr Gore’s home in Woodland Terrace, Meanwood, Leeds, where Duncan knifed him at his car.

Mr Gore was treated in hospital for superficial wounds.

Michelle Hampson’s solicitor advocate, Abraham Verghese, said she committed the affray because she was angry when her husband found someone else. She was under the influence of drink and drugs when she plotted to knife Mr Gore.

Tim Stead, for Paul Hampson, said the couple were not merely estranged, but there was hostility between them.

Judge Peter Benson said: “People who end up with a knife and go mob-handed intending to cause serious injury must expect a significant sentence of custody.”
