A Skipton man suffered cuts to his head in a fight which followed a fall-out, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Damien Bunnett, 29, lost his temper and seized hold of Paul Keenan.
The pair struggled and fell, leaving Mr Keenan bleeding from head wounds, prosecutor David Bradshaw said.
Bunnett, who lived in North Parade, Skipton, and has now moved to Sheffield, admitted causing Mr Keenan grievous bodily harm on March 21 last year.
Mr Bradshaw said the two men knew one another. But feelings ran high after Mr Keenan and others threw Bunnett out of a party the night before the assault.
Judge Shaun Spencer QC sentenced Bunnett to an 18-month community order with supervision. He must attend a programme to address his drug abuse.
