A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a devoted dad from Bradford.

Damian Gordon, 30, of Swain House, Bradford, was shot in Club Icon, Westgate, Bradford, in the early hours of August 3.

Owen Bell, from Manchester, made his first appearance at Bradford Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with his murder.

Bell, of Marlborough Road, Salford, spoke only once during the five-minute hearing to confirm his name, age and address.

The 32-year-old, unshaven and wearing a blue jumper, was flanked by two security guards as he stood in the dock with his head bowed.

Last Tuesday, Mr Gordon’s widow, Brenda Gordon, made a tearful plea for information about the murder.

Speaking for the first time in public since her husband’s death, she told a packed press conference her life was “frozen in timelessness” and that her children were “lost” without their dad. A large area around the city centre nightclub was cordoned off for more than a day following the incident as police carried out a thorough examination of the scene.

A murder investigation was launched, led by Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry team.

Detectives later revealed that Mr Gordon had been shot two or three times in the chest.

Mr Gordon, also known as Mikey, had a four-year-old son.

Rachel Widdicombe, the barrister for the defence, made no application for bail on Bell’s behalf.

Malcolm Christy, for the Crown, successfully requested that Bell be remanded back into custody.

Bell is due to appear via video link at a preliminary hearing at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday, August 28.

West Yorkshire Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident, and people who were in the club at the time should contact them on (01274) 373 700.
