A teenage burglar was overpowered with CS spray when police came to arrest him for raiding a neighbour’s house.

Mark Elwood, 18, of Ormond Drive, Allerton, Bradford, admitted burglary and resisting a police officer when he appeared before Bradford Crown Court today.

Elwood stole a stereo player from the woman’s home on March 24 this year.

He refused to get out of bed when police came to arrest him two days later, the court was told.

He told officers they were “going to get it”.

Elwood’s barrister, John Topham, said he had apologised to his victim.

Judge Roger Scott said it was a mean offence.

He sentenced Elwood to an 18-month community order with supervision and 80 hours’ unpaid work.
