A 20-year-old man who was caught helping to sell heroin and crack cocaine from a car has been locked up for 16 months.

Passenger Nisar Khan, of Henley Grove, West Bowling, was filmed handing over two wraps of the class A drug to an undercover police officer after a phone call had been made to a “dealer line” last November.

Khan was arrested in March was part of Operation Chevette and during his interview he admitted being involved in the drug deal with the officer.

Last month he pleaded guilty to two charges of supplying drugs and today Judge Roger Scott, sitting at Bradford Crown Court, rejected submissions that he should pass a suspended sentence in Khan’s case.

Judge Scott heard that Khan had educational and cognitive difficulties and had only been involved in the drug dealing for one day.

But he said Khan had gone in with his eyes wide open and knew what would happen if he was caught.

“There is a great deal of dealing in drugs on the streets of West Yorkshire. A great deal too much,” said Judge Scott.

“There is nothing in the pre-sentence report or in the mitigation that can prevent you from going to custody today or to prevent you getting a sentence consistent with other sentences I have imposed.”

Khan will be released after serving half of the sentence in a young offenders' institution.
