Rotarians are helping to raise cash towards a £500,000 target to fund an African education programme.

The School 4 All in Africa programme aims to help provide 1,000 disabled children with access to primary education in the Mukono and Pallisa districts of Uganda.

John Philip, District Gover-nor of Rotary District 1040 which covers Pudsey, said: “Education is the right of all children.

“The School 4 All in Africa programme is vital as the United Nations estimates that over 90 per cent of disabled children in Africa do not go to school.

“Without access to education the children could face a bleak future as they will lack the basic skills and knowledge that are essential to gain future employment and a better quality of life.

“This could cause them to become trapped in a cycle of poverty.”
