An information day was held at St Luke’s Hospital in Bradford for type 1 diabetes patients who manage their condition with an insulin pump.

The pumps are one of the most efficient way of treating type 1 diabetes and can transform the lives of patients who have previously struggled to manage their condition.

The machines monitor glucose levels and administer insulin directly into the bloodstream. The service was introduced in Bradford around six years ago and is now one of the biggest in the UK.

The information day, attended by around 40 patients, was a chance for them to learn more about their condition and treatment, talk to other diabetes patients, dieticians and diabetes nurses. A talk was also given by Dr Donald Whitelaw, consultant physician in diabetes and endocrinology.
