Pupils in the Bradford district have competed for the annual Chris Murrell trophy at the Doe Park sailing regatta in Denholme.
Tong, Oakbank, Bradford Grammar and Thornton competed in the regatta’s fourth year.
The competition level was described as being exceptionally high, including competitors who train with the regional junior zone squad and Alice Milnes, of Thornton Grammar, who trains with the national intermediate junior squad.
Trophies were awarded for outstanding effort, best individual and best team. The regatta is named after Chris Murrell who died in 2002.
Chris was the centre manager at Doe Park and a regional race trainer.
His son Ben was one of the competitors at the regatta, representing Oakbank school. He also presented the trophies.
Competitors started sailing at Doe Park on school and holiday courses and train through their school sailing programme.
Doe Park is part of Bradford Council’s Leisure Services and anyone wishing to have a go at a sailing, kayaking, canoeing or other adventure sports can attend a range of holiday fun and skills course this summer. Call Doe Park on (01274) 833826.
