With hindsight, had I had my wits about me at the time, I suppose I could have asked for sponsors for my marriage 30 years ago this week!
There seems to have been a flurry of requests for sponsorship recently as the spring weather arrives and people gird their loins to step out of their comfort zones and take part in some physical endurance for a charity of their choice.
Among them is my colleague Kahn Johnson, shaking himself out of a sustained lethargy to take part in two road runs for Multiple Sclerosis charities. (You can read all about his training and big build-up in his blog, and bung him a few encouraging quid while you're at it, why not.)
I'm not complaining in the slightest about the number of people putting themselves out for others. Far from it.
I take my hat off to anyone prepared to make the effort a) to do the challenge, b) to train for it, and c) to raise the money, having gone through it all big style myself last year in a sponsored bike ride in Vietnam.
It's kind of fun, but bloomin' hard work.
So, I'm usually more than happy to dip in my pocket to back a worthy cause - I say 'usually' in case I'm inundated after this, and have to become choosy!
So, whether you're in the London Marathon this weekend, the Bradford 10k race, the Race for Life, the Shipley Stride, the Lord Mayor's bike ride to Hamm and back, or something even more ambitious, the best of luck and more power to your fund-raising elbows.. or legs, or whatever.
It's a mite too late to ask for sponsors for my marriage.. but then again, it is still going strong...!
