A FESTIVAL of music showcasing underground and emerging bands is taking place in Bradford.

Neon Zebra Festival 2024 has been put together by local event organiser Ben Snowden of Mirror Man Presents.

Taking place at The Underground in Duke Street, it features 11 bands performing music of different genres.

Last year’s Neon Zebra Festival, held in Shipley, was a great success, says Ben. “We are following on from that.This year’s event has been moved to The Underground in Bradford city centre, where we’ve got a fantastic line up of exciting emerging and underground bands.”

Says Ben: “This festival is for everyone from all walks of life to celebrate original music and to have a great time. There’s something for every music fan, be it punk, electronica, psychedelic funk, garage, alt-rock, metal, spoken word, noise rock or hardcore punk.

“Neon Zebra Festival is about supporting underground and emerging bands and keeping the Bradford music scene alive. We have an amazing line-up of bands from across the country - Bradford, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Margate and London. The event is being generously hosted by The Underground.”

The bands performing half-hour slots at the event are Leeds-based visceral punk rock band Johnny Cosmic & The Night Terrors, Echo Machine One, Manchester-based Lynskey, and Yorkshire alternative rock/rap/electronica band Rupcha Farms.

Volk Soup from Leeds is appearing, as is Under-Volt a two-piece, riff-based band based from Edinburgh and Bradford musician Red Shakes whose music is inspired by a range of different artists from The Beatles and The Beach Boys to 2000s indie bands like The Libertines and The Kooks.

The Leeds-based six-piece funk band Flat Moon is playing as well as the Manchester-based punk duo The Sewer Cats, London-based electro punk-folk musician OORYA and Glasgow-based The Kidney Flowers.

The headline band Pink Suits, from Margate, will be playing from 10:15pm to 11:00pm, when the festival will come to a close.

*Neon Zebra Festival takes place on Saturday May 25, 2024 at The Underground, Bradford, 9 Duke Street, Bradford, BD1 3QR. Doors open at 1.45pm with the first band taking to the stage at 2pm.
