POLICE have issued an update on a number of arrests made following the fatal stabbing of a young mother in Bradford city centre.

Habibur Masum, 25, has been charged with murdering Kulsuma Akter, 27, who was attacked while pushing her baby in a pram in Westgate, at the junction with Drewton Road at 3.21pm, on Saturday afternoon.

Masum, of Leamington Avenue in Burnley, is also charged with possession of a bladed article.

He appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court earlier today where he was remanded in custody following a six-minute-long hearing.

Masum was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday in Aylesbury – 170 miles away from where Ms Akter was stabbed.

Yesterday it emerged that four other men were arrested in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, on suspicion of assisting an offender and drug offences.

This afternoon, West Yorkshire Police has told the Telegraph & Argus all four from the West Midlands - aged 23, 26, 28 and 29 - have been bailed pending further enquiries

A 23-year-old man arrested in the Cheshire area on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender was released on bail.

Ms Akter was taken to hospital after being stabbed several times at 3.20pm on Saturday.

She later died from her injuries.
