SHOPPERS have been asked to think green this week and weekend at The Broadway.
Until Monday, April 15, the shopping centre is showcasing its efforts to be more environmentally friendly and share ideas with shoppers on how to be greener.
Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway said: “The centre does a lot behind the scenes to be as eco-friendly as possible.
"Sustainability Week will allow us to show our customers exactly what we do and give them ideas on what they can do to live more sustainable lives.”
In 2023, The Broadway recycled 95 tonnes of cardboard that was then used to make new materials.
It diverted 348 tonnes of mixed waste from landfills and composted 57 tonnes of food waste.
On Thursday (April 12) the centre was also due to be the first venue to host Battrecycle’s Great Yorkshire Tour.
The national battery recycling scheme aims to educate and raise awareness of battery recycling.
Jumbo the elephant, who is made from 29,000 recycled batteries, was to be outside the Charles Street entrance.
But this has been postponed.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Bradford Council said: "Unfortunately the Wastecare Battrecycle elephant won’t be appearing tomorrow in The Broadway Bradford, however, we’ve been assured that it will be visiting in June."
Battrecycle promotes the safe recycling and disposal options for batteries and other potentially hazardous small appliances such as vapes.
