THE M62 has now reopened after it was closed in both directions by police due to a "serious incident".
The closure was between junctions 24 and 23, with motorists warned to expect lengthy delays.
West Yorkshire Police said: "Due to a serious incident on the network the M62 is closed in both directions J24 - J23. This closure will be in place for some time.
"Please find alternative routes. Thank you for your patience."
Traffic alerts reported: "M62 both ways closed, queueing traffic due to police incident from J24 A629 (Ainley Top) to J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).
"Congestion to just before J25 (Brighouse) in the westbound direction. Ongoing since around 18:35.
"An air ambulance is on scene."
In an update at around 8.05pm, National Highways said: "The M62 in West Yorkshire has re-opened in both directions between J23 and J24 following West Yorkshire Police led serious incident.
"Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey."
West Yorkshire Police said: "The M62 at junctions 23-24 is now fully re open in both directions.
"Thank you."
