POLICE have sent a warning to drivers using an access-only road to avoid traffic queues.

West Yorkshire Police targeted motorists driving down Toftshaw New Road and Toftshaw Lane in Tong without a valid reason.

The force gets regular calls to the area about congestion as a result of drivers using the roads as a cut through.

Held randomly between 4pm and 5pm on March 21, 49 vehicles were stopped by police in total.

Out of the 49 vehicles, 32 had no legitimate reason to be using the road, police said.

The occupants were educated about the use of these roads before being turned around.

Random checks will now be held in the area at different times.

Any repeat offenders will be issued a ticket and fine, Bradford South Neighbourhood Policing Team said.

“The use of these roads illegally causes them to become blocked at peak times resulting in motorists having to drive on pavements to get [past] each other,” said a spokesperson.
