OVER £444,000 of funding raised from Bradford’s Clean Air Zone will be distributed to 48 schools across the district.

The schools had all submitted applications for cash to help reduce air pollution around their local area.

The Clean Air Schools Programme grants will go towards projects including walking buses, bikes, scooters and shelters, classroom air filtration systems and green screens using planting to protect play areas.

One of the conditions imposed by Government on the Bradford Clean Air Zone is that income can only be spent on scheme to reduce air pollution in the District.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's executive member for healthy people and places, said: “The Clean Air Zone is already improving health and reducing air pollution across the district. The Clean Air Schools Programme gives schools the opportunity to initiate further air quality improvements directly where children walk to school and play.”

The projects will be starting in Spring.
