A COUNCILLOR has called for calm after a large disturbance arose from a pro-Palestine protest outside a Bradford takeaway.

Four men were arrested following reports of people being assaulted and a window damaged at Salah’s.

Police were called just after 7pm on Friday night to the takeaway - which is located next to Downham Street on Leeds Road.

The men - aged 30, 34, 46 and 50 - have been arrested on suspicion of offences including criminal damage, assault, affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

Footage on social media appears to show staff at the takeaway embroiled in tense scenes with protesters.

West Yorkshire Police say they will be maintaining an increased presence in the area.

He said: "Leeds Road is the corridor of the city centre and it is a road to be proud of with all the businesses doing well.

"People from out of the city visit those and the restaurants on the road.

"This will give a negative impression to people who don't live in the city.

"My message to the community is feel free to protest peacefully but do not damage any business or somebody's property."

"It was scary because people were thinking what is going on."
