AN event to commemorate the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine will be held tomorrow.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began on February 24 2022 and followed the Kremlin’s military intervention in the eastern Donbas region and its annexation of Crimea in 2014.

A Mass for Peace will be held at St Joseph's Catholic Church, on Pakington Street, off Manchester Road.

A spokesperson for the Association of Ukrainians in Bradford said the event to stand with Ukraine.

They added: "The goal of the global campaign, which the commemoration is part of, is to draw the world’s attention to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, which includes recent atrocities in Kharkiv.

"It is also to strengthen support for Ukraine, keep Ukraine in people’s minds, and show that Ukrainians are united and haven’t forgotten about their homeland, countering Russian propaganda and that the war still matters.

"Ukraine needs all of our voices, support, and to rally across the world. In these tragic times, we must stand strong and united."

The event is supported by the Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph’s as well as members of the Polish and Italian communities in Bradford.

Other guests invited are the Lord and Lady Mayoress of Bradford and local MPs.

Bradford’s Ukrainian Ladies Choir, Fiyalka, and the male voice choir, Dibrova, will sing at the event.

Children from the Bradford Ukrainian School will also attend.
