YORKSHIRE Water is recruiting cadets.

The company has launched a search for students to join its industrial cadet programme.

Thirty people will be selected to take part in the initiative.

Over five days, they will learn more about the water industry, the issues faced and career opportunities available.

And at the end of the programme, each student will receive the nationally-recognised Silver Level Industrial Award.

Applications are now open for the scheme, which will be based at Yorkshire Water’s learning academy in Esholt.

Anne Reed, the firm's social value and education manager, says the venture offers a "fantastic" opportunity.

"The students will spend the week learning about sustainability issues within the UK water industry and will be given the task of completing a project tying into this," she says.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the water industry and the challenges it faces.

"In addition to seeing those challenges and working alongside their peers to understand and demonstrate more sustainable ways of working, they will also have a chance to meet people from across the business and understand the roles available to them in the future.

"Students will also gain an insight into, and understanding of, how the sector impacts the environment and what it does to help reduce those impacts.

"Career opportunities at Yorkshire Water are many and varied, and we hope this week will help our students understand the opportunities available to them within the field.

"They will meet people from across the business to understand how the water industry works, what work Yorkshire Water is involved in and the different professions within the sector.

"Students will also visit a water treatment facility to learn more about the journey of water from source to tap and some of the issues the UK industry faces.

"There will be team-building activities and participants will work together to complete a short project linked to water conservation and water resource management. The results of that project will then be presented back to Yorkshire Water.

"The Silver Level Industrial Award the students will achieve at the end of the week is similar to receiving the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, but with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths."

Applications are open until Monday, February 26.

The programme will start on Monday, July 8.
