A 42-year-old man has been banned from driving for 12 months after admitting being over the drink-drive limit.

Daniel Bannan stopped for police who had been looking for him following reports of an earlier incident, heard Skipton Magistrates Court on Friday.

He pulled over on Cononley Road, Cross Hills, during the evening of September 23 after being spotted by a police officer who had been looking for a black Mini Convertible driven by Bannan who was suspected to be over the drink drive limit, the court was told.

Bannan, who stopped on his own accord, provided a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Harrogate Police Station where almost two hours later he was found to have 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

He admitted drink-driving in court, but added in mitigation that he had been attacked, had 'stupidly' jumped into his car to get away and had only driven a short distance.

Bannan, of Green Lane, Glusburn, near Keighley, was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £276 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £110. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course his ban will be reduced by 12 weeks.
