POLICE are treating the death of a boy in a Bradford district town as "unexplained".

It comes after emergency services scrambled to a private address on Westgate, in Baildon, at around 7.30am today.

West Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service attended to reports of a medical emergency involving a 16-year-old boy.

The teenager was rushed to hospital where he sadly passed away.

His death is being treated as "unexplained" at this time and enquiries are ongoing, a spokesperson for the force told the Telegraph & Argus.

The boy’s death has been greeted with sadness from across the community in the area.

Philip Davies, Conservative MP for Shipley, sent his thoughts and prayers to the boy's family at this awful time.

He said: "It is absolutely tragic.

"It is unimaginable what his family must be going through.

"It is truly awful and a terrible tragedy.

"My heart goes out to the family who must be going through hell right now."

Baildon Ward Councillor Allison Coates added: "My fellow Ward Councillors and I are very saddened to hear of the death of a 16-year-old boy within our ward this morning.

"The death of anyone so young is truly tragic and our thoughts, and no doubt those of the whole Baildon community, are with his loved ones at this sad time."

Residents also took to social media to express their sympathies.

One Facebook user described it as “awful” news while another added: “Someone’s family are in a devastating way – thoughts and prayers go out to them.”

Carol Stott-Gatemby said: "Someone's family are in a devastating way, thoughts and prayers go out to them."

Others commentated to say they had seen the large emergency services presence in the town centre.

Vicky Dent wrote on the Telegraph & Argus Facebook page: "Aww so sad, rip."

When the Telegraph & Argus attended the scene at 10am, at least half a dozen police and ambulance vehicles were present.

A police van was spotted blocking the entrance to the road - between The Bridal Boutique and Gents Quarter Barber Shop Ltd.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson also said paramedics were called to a medical incident.

West Yorkshire Police has asked for people to consider the boy's family and respect their privacy.

A spokesperson for the force added: "Police were called at 7.39am this morning by the ambulance service to Westgate, Baildon, to a medical emergency involving a 16-year-old male.
