A KNIFE-carrier had his sentence adjourned for a psychiatric report after laughing persistently on the prison video link.

Bailey Sowden, 23, of no fixed address, had earlier pleaded guilty to having a knife in Great Horton Road in Bradford on September 5.

But his sentencing hearing before Bradford Crown Court was adjourned until November 8 after he laughed loudly on the link to HMP Leeds before and after the judge came into court.

Recorder Dafydd Enoch KC asked him if something was funny and remarked: “He’s acting as though he’s under the influence of something.”

He observed that Sowden had a lot of previous convictions for carrying knives.

His barrister, Abdul Shakoor, said his client had issues that needed to be addressed by a medical report.

Recorder Enoch adjourned the case for six weeks for the defence to commission either a psychiatric or a psychological report, whichever they decide is the more appropriate.
