THE owner of a garden shed between Keighley and Skipton can carry on using it for the sale of hot drinks and snacks after being given retrospective approval by North Yorkshire Council.

The shed, in the front garden of a bungalow in Grange Road, Farnhill, has been used for the selling of refreshments on Fridays to Sundays, between the hours of 9am and 4pm, and is closed from Mondays to Thursdays.

Only during school holidays will it be also open on Thursdays and Mondays, again from 9am to 4pm.

A planning officer's report, following an application to the council, states that when not in use, the development will look like a 'domestic shed'.

The scheme has been supported by the parish council and of five representations to the planning authority, four were in support. It has also received the support of the ward councillor.

The officer's report states it is not considered that the development will result in unacceptable noise to neighbours.

"It has been confirmed by the applicant that there is to be a limited range of products available for purchase, including hot drinks, cold drinks, hot sandwiches, and savoury bakes. This will be controlled by way of an agreed pre-commencement condition."

There will be no alcohol for sale, and there has been no objection from Environmental Health.
