BD: Festival is set to bring an eclectic programme of live performances, dance and music to Bradford city centre.

The free annual event will showcase five world premieres, spectacular circus shows, street theatre, and much more.

BD: Festival 2023 will take place throughout Friday, July 28, and Friday, July 29, in three different parts of the city centre.

Featuring a diverse line-up of artists, the festival will offer 20 outstanding experiences for families and children of all ages.

BD: Festival, produced by Bradford Council, is building up towards 2025 - the year Bradford celebrates its status as UK City of Culture.

One highlight of the two-day extravaganza includes the world premiere of Cricket Green by Bradford’s very own Balbir Singh Dance Company.

The cast hopes to bowl over audiences by blending classical Indian and contemporary western dance styles to narrate the story of Team Earth vs Team Climate, a surreal game of cricket.

Unlimited Theatre and Upswing will present Ancient Futures – an Afrofuturism inspired outdoor spectacular commission, that blends circus and storytelling with Sound System culture and West African folklore.

Meanwhile Mind the Gap - a leading learning disability performance and live arts company – will perform Birdie, an intricate performance, that tells the powerful story of climate change.

Car Stories, an interactive research piece by Dr Alam, from the University of Bradford’s School of Social Sciences, explores issues such as class, identity and race, and how these topics relate to Bradford’s shared love of cars.

For a multi-sensory experience, Edible Archives’ pop-up studio at Kirkgate Markgate will bring the market’s unique murals and 70s architecture to life through ice cream and sound.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “BD: Festival is a great example of our ambitions, our energy and our dedication to bringing world-class cultural experiences to the people of Bradford district and beyond, whilst also showing the world who we are and what we can do.
