THE much loved Great Yorkshire Show is set to attract sell-out crowds this week. 

The popular event has charmed fans of farming, horse-riding, and countryside living for over 160 years.

It is now seen as one of the best agricultural shows in the UK, welcoming around 140,000 people to its 250-acre showground in Harrogate over four days.

The Great Yorkshire Show is taking place from Tuesday, July 11, to Friday, July 14, in 2023.

The Great Yorkshire Show will be honoured by a visit from HRH The Duke of Gloucester, Prince Richard, on Tuesday.

The show has a long history of attracting royalty - including King Charles III and The Queen Consort in 2021 and HRH The Princess Royal in 2022.

Attractions for the 2023 Great Yorkshire Show (GYS) include talented show jumping, sheepdogs, chef demos, and GYS’ pole climbing championships. 

The Cheese and Dairy Show will be returning while visitors can enjoy a new look fashion show.

TV presenter Christine Talbot is also hosting a series of chat shows with TV host Matt Baker MBE, Peter Wright of The Yorkshire Vet and TV presenter Adam Henson.

Allister Nixon, CEOof Yorkshire Agricultural Society which organises the Great Yorkshire Show, said there had been "unprecedented demand” for tickets this year.

The chief said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support from our visitors. 

“We have seen unprecedented demand for tickets, selling out Wednesday already and our membership sold out in April.

Wednesday - traditionally the busiest day of the show - has now sold out. 

Tickets can only be bought in advance of the show, with visitor numbers capped at 35,000 a day.

Visitors are encouraged to download a new free Great Yorkshire Show App, designed to help visitors plan their day using an interactive map and schedule events. The app is available on both Google Play and iOS App Stores.

Held at the Main Ring, The Cock O The North will take place at 3.45pm on Thursday when some of the best showjumpers in the UK will compete.

Olympic medallist Graham Fletcher, who is part of the show’s showjumping committee, and famous showjumping Whitaker family are regular competitors.

The most recent winner was James Wilson on Imagine De Muze.

Fans can also expect to see Frenchman Lorenzo as well as Lizzie Jones.
