The driver of a dark blue Bentley sports car was taken to hospital after his car collided with a wall on a country lane at about 11.40am today.

Odsal firefighters were called to Corporal Lane, in Queensbury, by paramedics after the car had caught fire.

The crew put out the flames and then aided the paramedics to lift the driver out of the adjoining field.

He was then taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Crew manager Ben Bush said: "We are not sure how the car caught fire, it is currently under investigation.

"However it could have been that because the car went over the wall the fuel tank may have been ruptured.

"The man had obviously managed to crawl out of the car before it caught fire too much, but we also assisted the paramedics in carrying him out of the field where they had put a neck brace on him.

"He was awake and conscious but quiet and understandably quite clearly shook up by the whole thing."
