An Otley woman has been discharged from hospital after being shot five times in the head by a gunman on the Greek holiday island of Rhodes.

Victoria Kilby, 20, originally from Otley, was injured when an Albanian man fired at a car with a hunting rifle, injuring her and a Greek man before killing himself, police said.

Her father Mark said doctors will not be able to operate on Victoria for several weeks.

He said: "Due to the close proximity of the shots, she has powder burns on her face. They are very prone to infection so the doctors will not be able to remove the pellets until they are completely healed."

Mr Kilby and his wife Caroline flew out to Rhodes to see their daughter on Thursday night.

He said: "She had been discharged but will be coming back daily to see the doctors."

The attack happened a mile or so from the centre of Rhodes Town at about 10pm on Tuesday, said police commander Iannis Mesodiakakis.

"The 32-year-old Albanian man was in love with a girl from Sweden, who worked in a cafe, and they had split up some months before," he said.

"The Greek man and the British woman went to the cafe to pick up the Swedish woman. The Albanian man was very angry and shot at the car."

He added that the gunman committed suicide later in the belief he had killed someone.
