Three people arrested during a drugs raid on a cannabis-growing den in Bradford are wanted on warrant after skipping bail, a judge heard today.

The two women and a man were arrested along with 33-year-old Ying Huang when officers raided a house in Allerton Road a year ago.

Prosecutor Nicholas Askins told Bradford Crown Court that Chinese national Huang was found hiding behind a shower curtain in a bathroom when police searched the house.

He said police found a number of bin liners full of harvested cannabis plants on the floor of the lounge, which contained no furniture. They also found three piles of plants, as well as scissors and gloves.

"The Crown's case is that all four defendants were engaged in the production of cannabis,'' said Mr Askins.

Mr Askins accepted that Huang, who had only arrived from Sweden nine days before the raid, was effectively a "hired hand" who had been taken to the house by another man.

The cannabis plants would have produced an estimated 10.5kg of the drug, which could have made individual deals worth just short of £90,000.

Huang, of Fernhill Mount, Shipley, pleaded guilty last August to being concerned in the production of cannabis, but Mr Askins revealed that his three co-accused were now wanted on warrants.

Huang now works as a chef and his barrister Sukhbir Bassra said he wanted to return to Sweden.

Mr Bassra highlighted his client's guilty plea and his presence at court.

The Honorary Recorder of Bradford Judge Stephen Gullick was told Huang had spent about 70 days remanded in custody before he was granted bail.

"Given the basis upon which I sentence you, namely extremely limited involvement in terms of time and actual physical involvement with these plants, the sentence which I pass is one of 130 days imprisonment," he told Huang via an interpreter.

Because Huang had already spent about half that time on remand he was expected to be released immediately by the prison staff.
