Bradford Council's Student Finance Service is urging students who are hoping to go to university or college in September to get their loans and grant applications in as soon as possible.
A programme of visits to schools and colleges will begin this month to explain the different options available and help students fill out the forms.
Martin Stubbs, assistant director of the student finance section, said: "Sorting out your student finances should go hand in hand with sorting out which university or college you are going to, or which course you want to study.
"It's not too early for students to apply. In fact, the earlier they get their finances sorted out the better."
The Council is also reminding existing students to make sure they get their finances sorted out before they go back to university or college for the new term.
Parents and students can find out more information about what loans and grants are available as well as when their school or college will be visited by logging on to bradford.gov.uk or calling (01274) 432639.
