A great grandmother who was a well-known face behind the counter of a Bradford sweet shop turns 100 today.
Gladys Joynes, known to friends as Blossom, ran the shop in Market Street, Thornton, with her husband Charles for years.
Mrs Joynes was born in Pontefract, emigrated to Lahore, India, with her husband in 1931 and now lives at Rose Cottage residential home in Thornton.
Mr Joynes had served The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry but transferred to the Ordinance Corps of the Indian Army for the Second World War.
The couple had two sons, Robin and Brian, and returned to Britain when the war was over. Mrs Joynes has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her family and The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Robin Owens, are celebrating her milestone at the home today.
Patricia McCann, manager of Rose Cottage, said: "She's a character, always laughing and people who come in here and now have grandchildren still recognise her from the sweet shop."
