A 16-year-old boy accused of raping a girl at a New Year party told a jury they kissed and cuddled but no sexual attack took place.

The teenager said he climbed a drainpipe to get back into the house in Buttershaw, Bradford, where the party took place.

He told Bradford Crown Court a member of the family let him in and he hid in a cupboard for 10-15 minutes until the householder had gone to bed.

The boy said he had been drinking beer at the party but he was not drunk.

He said he went downstairs to see the 14-year-old girl and they kissed and talked.

He said she took her top off and he stripped to his boxer shorts.

Youths outside knocked on the window and the girl left the room shortly afterwards.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said nothing else happened and he would never force a girl to have sex with him.

The boy denies raping the girl on January 1 this year.

The trial continues.
