A builder carried out a revenge attack by smashing a window in a flat with a lump hammer, magistrates were told.
Gareth Jones, of Oxford House, Bingley, who admitted committing the damage in York Crescent, Bingley, on December 16, was ordered to carry out 80 hours' unpaid work over 12 months and pay £200 compensation at Bingley Court.
Prosecutor Amanda MacGuinness said Jones, 44, threw the hammer through the window at the home of Alex Soltan.
Mr Soltan later told police he suspected it was Jones and when officers visited the accused's home they found him in bed and he was arrested.
"It was a revenge attack because of the background between the parties which related to the complainant and defendant's niece," she said.
Keith Blackwell, for Jones, said his client had been emotionally charged when he threw the hammer because of something he had been told by his niece who lived in the same block of flats as Mr Soltan.
