Robbers forced their way into an elderly man's home claiming they were Customs officials who had to search his home for stolen goods.

Police have said the pair picked on the 74-year-old as he was "elderly and vulnerable".

They are now appealing for information about the incident which occurred early hours last Friday at St Blaise Court, off Manchester Road, Bradford.

The two men knocked on the elderly victim's door at 12.30am claiming to be from Customs and Excise.

They told the frightened occupant he was believed to be involved in handling stolen goods and they had to search his home.

He protested but they pushed past him into the property before spending an hour taking several items - claiming they were seizing them for criminal investigation.

They left but then returned the next morning to take more items.

Detective Inspector Mabs Hussain of Bradford South CID said: "This was an unusual attack on a vulnerable victim.

"Both suspects had distinctive appearances and I would urge anyone who knows anything about this robbery to contact me.

"They picked this man because he was elderly and vulnerable. He's being helped by specially trained officers including a crime reduction officer to assist with future crime prevention."

The first suspect has been described as a white male, aged 30 to 32, slim, with short dark, greasy hair with specks of grey. He wore a dark blue sweatshirt with navy blue tracksuit bottoms and white trainers with blue stripes.

He walked with a noticeable limp to his left leg.

The second suspect has been described as a white male, aged in his 40s, of stockier build. He had sandy coloured hair with a prominent side parting and wore a beige suede coat down to his knees and blue jeans.

He had a distinctive chin while his top lip was big and curled up to his nose.
