New parking regulations have come into force across the country making civil parking enforcement more transparent, simple and proportional to motorists.

The new regulations will make enforcement fairer, providing motorists with a consistent service and the introduction of a two-tiered penalty system.

Civil Parking Enforcement forms part of the Traffic Management Act (2004), which is aimed at keeping traffic moving.

The Act includes higher penalty charges for more serious contraventions, such as parking on double yellow lines, and lower charges for other contraventions, such as displaying an expired pay and display ticket.

Under the new regulations, all councils with a responsibility for civil parking enforcement, including Calderdale, will be required to undertake regular reviews of policies through consultation with stakeholders and communicate these policies effectively to the public.

Bradford Council is due to take over civil responsibility for parking in June.
