Police will have greater powers to crack down on street drinking in Otley and Yeadon from next week.
From Tuesday officers will have the power to fine anyone found drinking in the street, to confiscate their alcohol, or to arrest them if they refuse to dispose of the drink.
The ban covers all public highways, streets, byways and all other public places in specified areas, in a bid to curb drink-related anti-social beha-viour.
The new powers were contained in a Designated Public Place Order which was approved by Leeds City Council.
Councillor Les Carter, executive board member responsible for neighbourhoods, said: "All residents deserve to live in areas which are safe and peaceful.
"These orders, which have had a proven positive impact in other parts of the city, are an excellent way of helping to achieve this."
Councillor Chris Townsley, chairman of the Outer North West Area Committee, said: "This will reassure residents that loutish and anti-social drink-related behaviour will not be tolerated in Otley and Yeadon and shows that the council is working closely with the police, landlords and shopkeepers to reduce it as much as possible."
