WEST YORKSHIRE Police is reminding people to only use 999 in a genuine emergency after operators received a bizarre phone call yesterday.
Someone asked police if they could help after reporting that a stray cat had entered their friend’s house in Athens, Greece.
Unsurprisingly, West Yorkshire Police was unable to offer its support this time around.
Despite efforts to remind the public that the 999 system should only be used for genuine emergencies, figures show that around two-thirds of 999 calls do not require an immediate response, West Yorkshire Police said.
