AROUND 100 firefighters have been working through the night to tackle a massive blaze at recycling centre on an industrial estate at Ravensthorpe near Dewsbury.

Approximately 15 pumps and three aerial ladders were called to the scene to the Arthur Brook Ltd recycling centre, on Low Mill Lane, after the fire was first reported at 11.14pm last night.

Crews from across West Yorkshire, including several from the Bradford area, attended the incident on the Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate.

A spokesperson from Cleckheaton fire station said: "When were arrived just after midnight it was fully alight and well involved.

"The main pile of recycling product and some machinery were on fire, which spread to adjacent buildings. But fire crews reacted quickly, surrounded the fire and kept it from spreading to other buildings."

Crews used other specialist resources including hose laying equipment and a high volume pump to tackle the blaze which is involved not only the heavy machinery but stacks of scrap metal.

Warnings were issued to homes and businesses in the area to keep all doors and windows closed while crews battled the fire.

The Cleckheaton spokesperson said the incident ongoing this morning but crews were damping down.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "The fire at Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate has now been reduced to eight fire engines and one aerial ladder platform.

"Residents are still being advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke in the area."
