A DRIVER says he was fortunate to get out of his car without suffering any injuries after it caught fire in Bradford today.

A silver Skoda Octavia was on fire on Rooley Avenue at just after 8.40am today.

The driver, who was in the car on his own at the time of the fire, put the heating on in the vehicle and within a minute first smoke and the flames took hold.

The quick-thinking driver, who did not suffer any injuries in the incident, managed to park his car up, take his keys out and get out of the car and stand at the roadside.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

The fire caused the car’s windscreen to melt and one fire crew from Odsal attended the incident at just before 8.45am today.

An Odsal Fire Station spokesman said the car was fully alight when they attended and the cause of the fire is a suspected overheated heater in the vehicle.

The crew remained at the scene for 15 minutes and disconnected the car’s battery.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:
