Sheila Ferguson and Rowetta have teamed up to celebrate the gospel songs of the hit movie Sister Act.

The Songs of Sister Act, also featuring the London Community Gospel Choir, looks set to have the audience dancing in the aisles to songs such as Oh Happy Day, Joyful Joyful, Shout and Ain't No Mountain High Enough.

And get this - fancy dress is encouraged! If you've ever fancied donning a nun's habit, but couldn't really think of a reason to do so, now's your chance.

As lead singer with the Three Degrees, Sheila Ferguson and her powerful vocals spearheaded the group's success, marked with 28 gold and silver records.

She even performed at Buckingham Palace for the 30th birthday celebrations of Prince Charles, who was famously a fan of the Degrees.

Sheila's theatre credits include leading roles in Soul Train, Oh What A Night and Thoroughly Modern Millie. More recently she starred in new musical Hot Flush.

In 2004, Sheila appeared in I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here - her bushtucker trials included swimming in a crocodile-infested lake and taking a bath with Jo Pasquale. "I don't know which was most scary!" she says.

She has recently released a new solo album, New Kind Of Medicine.

Rowetta shot to fame as the last female in the first series of ITV's X Factor. She had been working in the music industry for years before the talent show came along - she was a backing vocalist on Simply Red's Stars album and worked as a vocalist with The Happy Mondays.

Since X Factor, Rowetta has worked as a solo artist, releasing a self-titled album and appearing on such TV shows as BBC's Children In Need.

  • The Songs of Sister Act is at the Grand Opera House, York, on Friday, February 1. For tickets ring 0844 8472322.
