A further 45 jobs have been lost at the Keighley operations of Marston Mills, the company behind soft furnishings retailer Ponden Mill.

The cuts have been made at Marston Mills' Keighley warehouse, where 41 people have been made redundant, and at its headquarters in Royd Ings Avenue, where four more have lost their jobs.

Ponden Mill, which has shops in Bradford, Skipton and Keighley, has been under a cloud since Marston Mills was sold to London-based equity firm and turnaround specialists Agilo in November.

Marston Mills then went into administration on December 11. The administrators have already announced 44 staff redundancies at the Keighley head office, news which has now been followed by yesterday's 45 further redundancies.

The redundancies are a blow after the good news just before Christmas when a £3.8 million deal was struck to sell 33 Ponden Mill stores to Poundstretcher, a subsidiary of Huddersfield-based Instore, saving 384 jobs in the process.

Administrators also secured another 46 jobs through the sale of six Marston Mills stores to Northern Ireland-based linen retailer Bedeck.

Marston Mills, which is understood to have employed around 120 staff in Keighley, Skipton and Stanbury, also trades under the Life from Coloroll brand, and has more than 100 stores across the UK and 80 concessions in retailers such as Debenhams and B&Q.

Ernst & Young joint administrator Simon Allport said: "We are in talks with a number of interested parties concerning the sale of the remaining parts of the business and hope to see some further transactions in the coming weeks."

Ponden Mill was founded in 1968 by Barry Brookfield, who started trading from a market stall in Skipton.

In the 1970s he began selling duvets from an old mill near Haworth which he described as the "Harrods of the North" and opened his first shop.
