An unemployed welder drowned in a canal after leaving his house following a row with his wife, an inquest heard.
Ivan John Taylor, 43, of Heath Street, Bingley, had spent an evening at The Fleece pub in Bingley with Anne Elizabeth Taylor before they had a "minor argument" at home.
Having drank five or six pints of beer, he was watching television with Mrs Taylor, before he left the house at 1am following the disagreement.
Four days passed without any contact before his body was fished from Leeds-Liverpool Canal near The Fisherman's pub at Dowley Gap, Bingley.
In a statement read out by the coroner, Mrs Taylor said: "I wasn't worried when he left, he had done that several times before and I went to bed fully expecting him to be lying next to me in the morning. I still can't believe what's happened."
She stated that her husband had been overlooked for a promotion at work and was unemployed at the time of his death, but she felt his disappointment had blown over.
His body was fished from the canal by angler Paul Sunter, 28, who flagged down the skipper of a passing narrow boat before recovering the body with a hooked pole.
Mr Taylor was born in Ipswich and moved to Wyke, Bradford, when he met his wife before they relocated to Bingley. He liked to renovate old cars in his spare time.
Bradford Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded an open verdict.
He said: "The cause of death was clearly drowning with a contributing factor of intoxication.
"From his wife's evidence there is clearly no anticipation of suicide. There is no evidence to show how or why he got into the canal and while one may assume he fell into the canal, I record an open verdict."
