THREE wedding venues closed down after flouting Covid rules remain shut after failing to show the improvements needed.

Complaints by members of the public led to the businesses - the Gomersal Lodge Hotel in Gomersal, the Grand Banqueting Suite in Ravensthorpe and Kabana Banqueting Suite or Orchid Banqueting Suite in Dewsbury town centre - all being shut earlier this month.

Kirklees Council's investigations revealed all three venues had been holding wedding receptions for 50 to 150 people, in breach of the Government's national restriction of no more than 15 guests. There was also a lack of social distancing, especially at arrival and departure at each venue.

The Council said last week that the venues would be reassessed weekly and would need to show the necessary improvements have been made before they can reopen.

The authority confirmed that the venues have been assessed again and none of them have been allowed to open up again.

At the time Councillor Rob Walker said: “Our aim is to support local business by giving praise where due, providing advice when required, challenging poor practices and behaviour, and only taking stronger action where necessary."
