Plans for a radical £2 million revamp of a big park are to go on show to the public for the first time.

And people will be encouraged to help fine-tune the Aireville Park proposals in a bid to get a grant from the Heritage Lottery.

Craven Council is bidding for the cash specifically from the Parks for People fund.

The plan reveals far-reaching alterations and is based on a survey that involved 1,500 people.

Proposed major developments include an amphitheatre cut into the natural slope of the land to form seating, the relocation of the pitch and putt course and development of an adventure centre.

Other ideas involve relocating the bandstand, developing a wildflower meadow, improving access for disabled people and replacing bins, benches and signage.

It is also planned to employed a full time park officer.

Craven councillor Stephen Place, who is in charge of environment, said: "Aireville Park should be the flagship of Skipton. The town is the capital of Craven and the park should benefit the whole of the district.

"At the moment it is tired and, like the autumn leaves, curled at the edges."

Consultants Scott Wilson and the Community First Partnership have worked with the Council to prepare the proposals since the Council was granted a project planning grant earlier in the year.

The final plan, which will take people's views into consideration, is due to be presented to lottery bosses in March next year.

The master plan can also be viewed on the council's website where comments can be posted until November 18. It will also be on display between November 9 and 18 at Skipton Town Hall, High Street, Skipton, and at the reception area of Craven Swimming Pool in Aireville Park.
