FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning after a fire was caused by oil-soaked towels which had been placed in a dryer.
Crews from Stanningley and Shipley were called to a house on Portman Street, Calverley, at around 4am, where the towels were smouldering in the basement.
A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the residents were woken up by the smoke.
He said there were "contaminants" like oil on the towels which had warmed up when they were placed in the dryer.
Firefighters removed them from the house and doused them outside. There was no damage to the house.
The spokesman warned people to make sure towels - which have any oils or household materials on them - are washed properly and aired.
