STACKS of events will be held across Bradford next month for the national Heritage Open Days festival.

For the first time in its 24-year history, the festival of culture and history will take place over two consecutive weekends - September 6 to 9 and September 13 to 16.

And this year, in recognition of the centenary of the Universal Suffrage Act, there will be hundreds of events taking place on the theme of ‘Extraordinary Women’ – focusing on both well-known and less celebrated women.

One event in Bradford ''Women's Rights and Manningham Lane: Lady Philanthropists' Boulevard?' will tell the 'herstories' of women philanthropists of Manningham Lane of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Meanwhile, Bradford Civic Society will mark the weekend by hosting a special event inside the city's Central Mosque on Saturday, September 6, celebrating the contribution of Bradford's immigrant communities to the city's heritage over the years.

The Civic Society will also be running a guided walk of Little Germany on Monday, September 8 specially for full-time carers.
